How to prepare for common tests
| Test | Preparation |
|---|---|
| Fasting blood sugar, lipid profile | 10 to 12 hours of fasting; water is allowed. Your doctor may say a non-fasting lipid test is acceptable. |
| Post-meal (PP) blood sugar | Sample exactly 2 hours after starting your usual breakfast or lunch. Note the time you started eating. |
| HbA1c, thyroid, CBC | No fasting needed |
| Glucose tolerance test | Arrive fasting; you will drink a glucose solution and stay at the clinic for about 2 hours |
| Urine tests | A mid-stream sample in the container we provide; first morning sample if advised |
Take your usual medicines unless your doctor has told you otherwise. If you take diabetes medicines or insulin, bring them and take them after the fasting sample, with your meal.
Reports
Most routine reports are ready the same day. Collect them at the clinic or ask us to send them to you. Please discuss abnormal results with your doctor rather than starting or stopping treatment on your own.
